Our Path to Sustainable Health

By implementing innovative solutions and strengthening public awareness, SPA aims to create a sustainable framework for mitigating AMR while protecting Tanzania’s ecosystems and public health. The project’s outcomes will contribute to a healthier and more resilient future for communities across the country.

The sustainability plan focuses on expanding drug take-back programs beyond Dar es Salaam, integrating them into local waste systems, and embedding them into national policies with support from health and regulatory bodies.

Partnerships with private sector actors, NGOs, and communities will ensure lasting impact. Education, local leadership training, and school integration aim to promote community ownership and long-term behavior change.

Project Objectives

The SPA project is structured around four key objectives aimed at addressing pharmaceutical waste management, mitigating antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and promoting environmental sustainability in Tanzania

The initiative begins with research, including a KAP study and feasibility assessment, to guide drug take-back programs and promote safe antibiotic disposal in households and healthcare settings.

Policy briefs and awareness campaigns will support evidence-based regulations, while education in schools and communities will promote sustainable pharmaceutical waste management and help combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
